Update 2005 |
| Hurricane Katrina in the fall of 2005 brought new challenges
to residents of the Gulf Coast, and though the storm
did not hit here, evacuees from New Orleans and the affected
areas arrived with the clothes on their backs and little
else with which to try to rebuild their lives. Thanks
to the generosity of parishioners of All Saints’ and
area Episcopal churches, the new arrivals found shelter
and community at Cliff Maus Village. |

Here two of the children who were uprooted enjoy the
food and fellowship at Kids’ Café, which
is now held regularly on Tuesdays and Thursdays after
school, where they can eat a hot meal, study with the
help of adult tutors and learn by interacting with caring
adults who are not biological family members. Limited
Internet access under adult supervision is also available.
Before hurricane season started, scholarships enabled
several children from Cliff Maus Village to participate
in summer camp activities at Camp Capers, the Diocesan
camp near Waring, Texas. |
| Evacuees from the storms also receive emergency
food supplies at regular twice-monthly distributions
at All Saints’ Terri Marie Lee Food Pantry.
The Adopt a Caseworker Program enables interested
families at All Saints’ to contribute to expenses
associated with back-to-school needs for children of
low income families as well as helping with expenses
related to Christmas and Easter Holidays.

| Honoring Families at Cliff Maus Village,
Corpus Christi, TX |
| On a beautiful Saturday morning, kids, Moms, Dads and
Grandparents arrived all dressed up and smiling. The families
of Cliff MausVillage were taking part in a special gift
to them from All Saints’ Church, Corpus Christi,
Texas. Over the next three Saturdays in October, the families
were invited to their community room for FREE family portraits. |

|
This was a team project sponsored by All Saints’ to
recognize and honor the families of Cliff Maus Village.
Supported by the members of the Compassionate Living Commission,
members of our Senior Youth Group got into the spirit of
the day as well.
Taking their jobs seriously, the youth group members made
funny faces, jumped around and clowned to get a smile out
of the children being photographed. Smiles were definitely
in abundance!
|
| Although CMV is a low-income housing project sponsored
by area Episcopal Churches, the residents are often graced
with several different endeavors from area churches throughout
the year. |
